The Professional Gamer - December 28, 2015

Hello and Happy Holiday's!  I hope you all have had a fun, spent time with people that you care about and got to goof off a bit.  I've spent some time away from work, spending time with my family, watching some television and movies, and playing some games.  I love how much easier it is to be a geek when time is a less limited resource.

Star Trek Beyond Trailer

Some how I missed the memo on the new Star Trek movie coming out this summer. I don't know how I managed it, but none the less it is coming, and it even has a teaser trailer!

From director Justin Lin comes Star Trek Beyond starring Idris Elba, Chris Pine, Simon Pegg, Zach Quinto, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Anton Yelchin and Karl Urban.

Civil War Preview

The first trailer has hit the interwebs. And I already feel bad for the characters. There is one scene in the trailer that is a literal shot to the heart.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Last night millions of geeks watched 1/2 a football game in order to see the new Star Wars trailer. And seconds afterward it was on hundreds of site, now including this one!

Watch the official trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, coming to theaters December 18, 2015.

So what can we tell from this? One, Luke may or may not be the bad guy. There is a lot of speculation around this, but I am going to vote that he is not a villain. Two we will see the Millennium Falcon again (although we already knew this). And that it looks cool. Here is hoping that this movie returns the Star Wars cinema to the greatness we think it deserves.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Movie Review

"Guardian's of the Galaxy" (GotG) released this week to a suspecting public. This is undoubtedly one of the riskier movies Marvel Studios has made so far. GotG is relatively unknown unless you are an active comic reader. It is not like Iron Man, Hulk, or Captain America that may be considered household names, or at least common knowledge to the standard public. Peter Quill is likely to invoke quizzical glances instead of familiarity if you bring him up in conversation. Same goes for Gamora, Drax, Groot, and Rocket; none of these characters are well known. So was the risk worth it for Marvel? If you don't have enough time to read this whole review then A) Why not? and B) Yes, the risk was worth it.

Gold no Longer Needed for Netflix and Hulu on Xbox

Netflix and Hulu have become staples in the living room. You are almost expected to have a device of some sort that can access the vast libraries of entertainment they have, and for some time the easiest way to access them were the game consoles that most of us gamers own. But there was always a downside. If you had an Xbox you had to have the gold level of Xbox Live to access the services you already paid for. Kind of lame when you consider the fact that you have never need to pay extra if you have a PlayStation 3 or 4, AppleTV, ChromeCast, or any other number of devices capable of streaming. But that is changing, all for the better.

The Pull List - Iron Man 3

So last night Rampage had a few drinks, saw Iron Man 3, and then decided to write about it. Here are the results.

Where to start.  Honestly I could probably spend the next several days (over which I could watch the movie another couple of times) picking apart the various references to bits and pieces of the movie that were once part of the mainline Marvel Universe (616).  I probably shouldn’t though, might be bad for my blood pressure.  So I won’t.  Only thing I will mention referring to the comics is the script is loosely based on Iron Man, Volume 4, Issues 1-6, published starting in January 2005, written by Warren Ellis.  It is available in trade paperback form, and, last I looked, available on Netflix on demand in motion comic form if you don’t feel like dropping the 20 bucks getting it in dead tree form.  Check it out, probably ranks up there with “Demon in a Bottle” as one of the better Iron Man stories in print.  If you're already familiar with the comics, take a little bit of advice.  For the runtime of the movie, forget everything you know about Iron Man except what you have learned from movies 1, 2 and the Avengers.  You’ll feel better that way.  Okay, felt good to get that off my chest.  On to the movie.
