Sucker Punch

So I saw Sucker Punch today, and as usual it is a movie that I honestly find to be good. But since the geek population is far from the largest demographic in the world it is getting its ass handed to it in reviews. So for those of you not familar with the movie it stars Emily Browning as Baby Doll. Now, I don't know if this counts as a spoiler since it all happens during the the initial credits of the movie, but you have been warned. The movie starts with Baby Doll's mom passing away. Her sister and herself are (expectedly) torn up about this. Not torn up about it was their step dad, what he is pissed about is that he was not in the will. So he tries to molest Baby Doll, and when he fails she gets locked in her room and he goes after her younger sister. Baby Doll climbs out a window, down to the first floor in the rain, grabs a gun and attempts to shoot the basterd. This is where she gets a bit unstable. She misses and kills her sister. From here she is taken to the sanitorium (without killing the step dad first, which she really shoud have). This all happened in the first few minutes so it was not dragged out and got the movie off to nice start.  We have a setting and it did not waste even 1/4 of the movie setting it up.

Navi's Song (Hey, Listen!), Trust me on this one K

So this video is by the same chick (read Meekakitty) that did the Star Trek Girl music video.  I do think this one is the better of the two videos and gives quite a different spin on the relationship with Link and Navi. And yes, it is a 5 Min 34 Seconds long, but the actual song ends after 3:12.  The rest is Meekakitty doing what made her famous (at least as famous as the internet makes you) in the first place.

Pokémon PSA

Do you like to capture Pokémon?  Do you enjoy traveling across the country so you can enslave sentient creatures and then force them to fight while you stay on the sidelines yelling out commands?  Do you enjoy forcing a fellow breathing and living being to an early grave?  If so you are an evil evil person, and the following PSA agrees.  Lets hope you mend your ways and set free your slaves before it is too late and you end up in a level of hell that forces you to be a Pokémon in an eternal losing battle.

Still worth it be a Toy R Us kid

So the 3DS is about to come out, and at $250 clams it is not all that cheap.  But Toys R Us has your back on this.  On the launch day (03/27/2011) of the system if you buy 1 game you can get the second 1/2 off.  Not a bad deal for new games.  Many "Tru" Locations will have demos of the system as well.  You know, just in case you are on the fence.

According to source you will also be able to trade in your old DS for a nice new one, but this is not being recomended, and I would have to agree with their reasons.  The 3DS has a screen with a higher resolution, but this comes at a price to older DS games.  The games are either blown up to look fuzzy, or if you hold select and start while it boot the system will use the original resolution, which means you have a much smaller play area.

This Week in Games (March 21, 2011)

So here is what I wanted to post this morning but failed to look it up far enough ahead of time. This Week in Games is (or at least is planned to be) a new weekly feature on The Gameslave. This Week in Games is going to be the games that are going to be released over the next week. So without further ado lets begin.

A Message from Blizzard

So I got up this morning with the intent of posting some actual content before leaving for work, somthing for you guys to peruse in the middle of the day instead of waiting till I got home.  And then I found out I really need to do more prep work if I am going to do that, so better luck next time.  But since I am up I thought I would post a link to one of Blizzards 20 Year anniversay videos.  They don't have a nice easy embed link, so I am going to point you to their site, but it is a quick message from Mike Morhaime (CEO and Co-Founder) and Frank Pearce (EVP, Product Development and Co-Founder) thanking us for our dedication.

Katamari Web Game

So what do you get when you mix gaming and bored web programmers that want to mess with HTML 5? You get get an improv version of Katamari Damcacy. A certain Alex Leone, David Nufer and David Troung at Katamari Hack have created this little hack complete with how it actually works for those interested. The short of the story is you place the below text in the location bar of a site you are at:

javascript:var i,s,ss=['http://kathack.com/js/kh.js','http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.5.1/jquery.min.js'];for(i=0;i!=ss.length;i++){s=document.createElement('script');s.src=ss[i];document.body.appendChild(s);}void(0);

The turns all the text and images on the page into things that can be grabbed by your Katamari ball. Initially the ball will grab only text, but as it gets larger it will start getting images as well.  The larger the ball the larget the image. Now this does need an HTML 5 browser to work and it works best in Chrome or Firefox 4.  Enjoy you bored gamers you.

Sony Joins the Cloud

So today Sony took a large step to make sure you won't lose your save games should your console fail or you have decided to use someone else's PS3.  Today they enabled PlayStation Plus members to upload their save games to an online storage system that will hold up to 1000 PS3 game saves, or about 150 MB of space. The nicest thing about this system is the ability to access your save games from anywhere you can sign into the PSN.

This does not mean however that you can play at home, upload your save game, head to Mike's house, download your save to play for a while then upload again and finish at home the same day (although that is nice dedication, I salute you sir).  You can only download a save from the online storage once in a 24 hour period.  If you cancel you PS Plus membership they will keep your saves for 6 months without deleting them, but while not a member you cannot access the saves, and after 6 months you may need to start Final Fantasy 13 over again.  Starting your account back up with the same name will allow you to access your saves again.

So are you interested now and plan on getting that PS Plus membership for the storage options and want to know how to use it?  Here you go:

To backup Save Game Data to Online Storage

  • You can back up or copy the save by navigating to the ‘GAME’ icon > scroll through the options until you are on ‘SAVE DATA UTILITY (PS3)’ > Press X
  • Select the save you wish to backup press the triangle button and select ‘COPY’
  • You will be asked to select the destination of the back up save, navigate to the new option ‘ONLINE STORAGE’ and press X to copy over.

To restore Save Game Data from Online Storage:

  • Go to ‘GAME’ icon, select ‘SAVE DATA UTILITY’ and then ‘ONLINE STORAGE’
  • Highlight the saved data you wish to copy.
  • Press triangle and select ‘COPY’ to retrieve the save.

Just remember to update your PS3 to 3.60 first and happy gaming.
