Crysis 3 Interactive Trailer

Games are all about choice anymore, but how can you make this sort of choice apparent in marketing? People see a paper ad, watch a TV commercial, or see a video on YouTube. These are typically pretty one sided story telling. Ahh but not all is how it seems. Since YouTube does allow you to add fields that can be clicked on it is possible to have a choose your own adventure YouTube trailer. Hence EA has given us the "Crysis 3 Official Single Player Interactive Demo". Not the best of all titles, but if you have 20 minutes to kill you might as well relive all those choose your adventure books.

Bucky Balls Banned?

As you may have heard the Consumer Product Safety Console has declared that Bucky Balls are unsafe. There reasoning is that the toy is dangerous and unsafe for kids. Young children can swallow the magnets which then can require surgery to remove. While they are not fully banned as of yet, the CPSC is suing Maxfield and Oberton (the makers and distributer of Bucky Balls) to stop sale of the product and issue a recall. They claim that the number of warning labels on the magnet toys stating they are not for children is not enough. Maxfield and Oberton are currently getting around issue by selling the toys on their own site http://www.getbuckyballs.com/ (and I saw them at my local "It's your move" this weekend).

The main issue here is, why can the government control what we can and cannot buy. It is an issue of this being a nanny state. I guess the way I look at it, adults are buying these toys for themselves, and it should be their responsibility to keep them away from children just like any other item that is not safe for children. If you agree that Bucky Balls (and other related toys) should by purchasable by adults for adults then speak up.

Quantum DLC

Square Enix has announced the two promised DLC packs for Quantum Conundrum. The first DLC title "The Desmond Debacle" will be released first on Steam starting 07/31/2012, then PSN on 08/14/2012 and finally XBLA on 08/15/2012. In this DLC you will be tasked with solving puzzles created by Desmond the drinking bird in a new section of Quadrangle Manor. How a drinking bird managed to create puzzles I have no clue, but this was an invention by Professor Quadrangle. It will run about $2.99 or 250 Microsoft Points.

The second DLC pack that will available on Steam starting 08/28/2012, PSN 09/11/2012, and XBLA 09/12/2012 will the "IKE-aramba!". In this you must once again embark on a rescue mission, but this time for IKE (Interdimensional Kinetic Entity) instead of your uncle. Not sure how a creature that can jump from one dimension to another gets trapped, but we can probably blame the professor again on this one. Just the the other DLC it will run $2.99 or 240 Microsoft points.

Game Over - Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

The life of an Assassin is not an easy life. Templars hound you at every turn. Death is the primary thing you know. But  Ezio Auditore da Firenze has thrived as an Assassin. He has avenged his family and worked towards saving the world from the Templars. He has even aquired the Apple of Eden from beings far more advanced then us. But where does one go now? Well things start badly as he is attacked by the Templars at his home, his uncle killed, and the apple lost. Now it is up to Ezio to get the apple back. How does this adventure end for Ezio, and his current era counter part Desmond? Read on to find out, and my opinions of how they are taking the story. As always I will preface this with a massive SPOILER ALERT.

Denver Comic Con Attracted Geeks in Mass

Even the Storm Trooper liked Denver Comic Con.To say the first year of Denver Comic Con was a success is an understatement. Today the Denver Post reported that, for its very first year, Denver Comic Con had 27,700 attendees. This is the second highest inaugural weekend for a convention next to New York Comic Con which had 32,000. They only beat by a paltry 4,300 people. Yes, with these sort of numbers I am going to view that as paltry. NDK only had 10,000 people. Sure they have an attendance cap, but this number did not hit it. Thanks to this grand success we can expect an even larger Comic Con here in Denver next year when they return to the Denver Convention Center on May 31 - June 2. Denver Comic Con will feature the one, the only, Stan "The Man" Lee. Here is looking forward to another great year.

The Weeks Geek - Death of Social Gaming by Social Gaming

Most people that don't actually understand gamers tend to think we are social outcasts. We sit inside all the time with little to no human contact playing our games. But they are wrong. Games, even single player ones, are a social experience. But while newer games have more social aspects to them via XBL, PSN, or Steam, it feels like they are losing their social connection.
