Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm (3/12/13)

For people who haven't seen it, watch it. For those who have, watch it again. Warcraft and Starcraft have been one of Activision Blizzard, Inc.'s greatest RTS games. The series is themed for the futuristic sci-fi military fans and gamers across the world will have to adjust their game play and strategy when the expansion comes out with new features and character/units.

With the upcoming expansion scheduled to be released (3/12/13), fans all over have tuned in to view the new trailer with Zerg swarms releasing carnage on a Terran colony. The last installment of the game ended with a shocking cinematic of the heroic space cowboy (Jim Raynor) finding Kerrigan alive and human. The video depicts the mysterious transformation of the Queen of Blades transcending back to the human Terran Ghost agent.

Ubisoft Acquires THQ Montreal

As many of you know THQ is having financial issues and filed Chapter 11. This means they are reorganizing and trying to find ways to pay off their debts. Once way of doing this is selling off different parts of the company. And today this was done when Ubisoft acquired THQ Montreal. They will be joining the already existing 26 studios in 19 countries and more then 6,250 employees that Ubisoft has that are dedicated to creating video games. Ubisoft was already has the second-largest in-house development staff, so this is a nice addition for them.

Now the studio was not the only thing they purchased. Ubisoft also gets  publishing rights for a very anticipated and funny game, South Park: The Stick of Truth.  South Park: The Stick of Truth is being created by external developer Obsidian and is planned for release sometime this year. Obsidian was also the studio behind Fallout: New Vegas. Fingers crossed that it will be awesome.

Phantom Out

Atari Files Chapter 11

Childhood is a thing that, if left unattended, will disapear in the blink of an eye. Then you will spend the rest of your life trying to relive what few parts you remember. And this is not becoming a little more difficult. Atari has recently filed Chapter 11 to distance itself from its French based parent company Atari SA. “Within the next 90 to 120 days, the companies expect to effectuate a sale of all, or substantially all, of their assets,” in a free and clear sale under the U.S. bankruptcy laws, or confirm reorganization plans that “accomplish substantially the same result,” according to the statement.

So after 40 years of making quality and semi-quality games they may be going under. Unless someone buys the majority of the company, which I don't really see happening, there is a good chance Atari will be gone by summer. So take this chance to remember Atari for all the good they did starting the game industry, and poor one out for them.

Fire Emblem 3DS Bundle

On February 4th, 2013 the latest in the Fire Emblem series comes in the United States. Fire Emblem Awakening will continue the turn based series by following Lord Chrom and how he gathers an army of companions to save the world from a rising evil. Man does that sound like an over used plot device. But lets admit, it is not the destination we play games for, it is the journey. In this tradition choices you make have an effect on the game play. Say there is a character that you have become really attached to and then they die in battle? Well they are dead for the rest of the game, so be careful.

Click for a bigger view of this awesome 3DS.OK, to be honest I have never played an Fire Emblem game. And turn based games are not my forey. So why would I care about this? Well the release is part of a 3DS bundle. And this bundle, like a number of other bundles it has a special design on it. This blue 3DS has a freaking dragon on it. I don't even play my current 3DS and I want this bundle. Look forward to it at an MSRP of $199.99 in a few weeks. If you are more interested in the game check out more information on it at http://fireemblem.nintendo.com/.

Denver Comic Con - More Guests

You think Denver Comic Con would be happy with having guests such as Stan Lee and Wil Wheaton. I mean they are in no B list celebrities. But the folks putting on the Denver Comic Con know we want more then that. They are working hard to give us the best con they can. As such Denver Comic Con announced two new guests today. The first is George Perez. He has written for both DC and Marvel creating wonderful properties such as Teen Titans, Wonder Women, Justice League of America and Crisis on Infinite Earths. He is also a board member of the super team, The Hero Initiative. Now while they may not be a team that monitors the planet to save it from nefarious plots, they are doing important work. They provide financial aid to comic creators that need emergency medical aid, help paying for life essentials, and help them get back into paying work.  Talk about super heroes for the comic community.

The second guest they announced, captain of the USS Excelsior himself, George Takei. For those of you that don't know (and shame on you) he started his career in the original Star Trek as the helmsmen of the USS Enterprise. He has been in a number of sci-fi and fantasy movies and TV shows since then, but more recently he has done a new musical called Allegiance. Allegiance is an "epic story of love, family and heroism during the Japanese American internment". Something that hits home for Mr. Takei. He has also written a book that details his experiences and rise in social media. The book is called "Oh Myyy" and can be purchased for Kindle, Nook, and iDevice. Look forward to seeing them both starting May 31.
