The Professional Gamer - October 12, 2019

Hi folks! Denver saw its first snow of the season yesterday, and I took advantage of a generous telework policy to avoid having to deal with it. I also watched the last episode of Astra: Lost in Space, played some Guild Wars 2 and Link’s Awakening, and I went to the Great American Beer Festival last weekend. I can’t do a whole lot of review of the GABF, because I was really just trying to have fun and didn’t take notes about anything. But I can talk a bit about some other things.

The Professional Gamer - September 28, 2015

Hello, fellow geeks and other interested parties.  I've finally got that tough project done and am enjoying my reduced workload.  I may still be using most of my lunch time for running (and hence not getting in my usual reading time) but I'm still having a lot of fun with my other activities.  Read on to see what I've been doing.

Playing: I haven't had a huge amount of free time for video games this week, but I did spend some time playing Guild Wars 2 after I'd had enough with work last weekend.  Sometimes, I feel like GW2 is the methadone to the heroin that is World of Warcraft.  At least I'm avoiding an expensive habit.

Watching: I've nearly finished watching the Good Eats episodes that are available on Netflix.  All that remains is Pumpkin Pie! But, I also found out that the latest Doctor Who Christmas special is now available, so I will be watching that very soon.  And, I watched the latest episode of Steven Universe: "Catch and Release".  I have a lot of feeling about this episode.  I feel like this is our first chance to see Peridot as more than a threat/annoyance; and that's a really good thing.  I'm also glad that Steven's constant kindness to her seems to have paid off in some degree of trust.  Also, sounds like there is some spooky stuff going on with Earth, and some sort of experimental gem  thing may blow the whole planet up.  We can only hope that the Crystal Gems will be able to avert disaster.

That's all I have for this week.  Come back next week, and I should have a bit more for you to read.  If you haven't already, have a listen to our conversation with Laurissa and Crystal about their experience at Nan Desu Kan 2015.  Have a great week, and game on!

The Professional Gamer - March 13, 2015

Wow, its been a busy week.  In between trying to keep my projects on time and keep all of the clients happy, I haven't had a huge amount of time for goofing off.  But, I have spent some time reading some graphic novels, playing a little bit of video games, and continuing to watch some older anime.

Best Graphics of 2012 - Artistic

There are more the graphics than how realistic you can make it. Some games take a much more artistic few to what they create. Cell shaded, pixels, or something else, a game allows a creator to express themselves and the world they helped created, and that is something that deserves recognition. Or nominees for Best Graphics - Artistic are:

Guild Wars 2
Borderlands 2
Scribblenaughts Unlimited
The Walking Dead
Journey

And the award, selected by the artist in the group, is Guild Wars 2. The game does not have an overly realistic view to it and the way cutscenes are transitioned is pretty cool. I could talk more about this but it would not mean much coming from me. So just trust us that it is a really pretty game.

Best MMO of 2012

MMO's are quickly dominating the gaming market, or at least the free-to-play part of the market. As such there are now a number of MMO's to choose from, but despite this we have have chosen a few nominate for MMO of the year.

Guild Wars 2
Planetside 2
World of Warcraft: Mists of Panderia

And the winner is Guild Wars 2 (like that is any surprise if you listen to the podcast). The interactive combat and way they work questing makes the game really fun to play. Add that to the no subscription play model and this is an MMO that anyone should pick up.
