One of the best things about E3 is always when new things are announced and seeing what is planned for the next year. Bethesda is on year two of having a show case and here is what I think about what they have announced.
Read MoreHello readers. This has been one of those weird weeks where I found myself not doing anything geeky, but can't really find the reason for it. Let's try to recount what happened this week. On Saturday, I went out for my birthday with family and friends, which took a large portion of the day. On Sunday, all of the usual D&D crew was busy, so Crystal and I ended up working outside. Monday evening, I went for a very long walk to help clear my head and work off a heavy dinner. On Tuesday, our friends came over for dinner and we all watched Crystal play Skyward Sword. Wednesday, Crystal and I decided to go out for dinner, since we had a pretty good coupon. We spent several hours enjoying some beer and talking about everything. On Thursday night, I went for a run by myself right after work, then went for a run with Crystal after dinner, which left me super tired. And that brings us to Friday night where I am composing this article. I'm with all the art crowd, typing away while they draw, paint, and color. Maybe I'll play some FLT after this.
Anyways, let's talk about the future. E3 starts tomorrow, and we are likely to be deluged with news of new games and products. Personally, I'm most looking forward to Nintendo's press conference. Even without discussion of their new console, getting some more info about the new Legend of Zelda title and Pokemon GO has me really excited.
Further in the future, is Denver Comic Con which starts next Friday. After helping Crystal run a table for the past few years, its going to be hard to adjust to spending the whole event on my feet. I'm hoping to see some of the artists that I've met in past years, as well as meet some new creators. I'm very likely to buy another print from Ukiyo-e Heroes, and maybe another book from Val Hochberg. We'll have to see. Not a lot of the names on the artist alley list are familiar to me, but I am horrible with keeping names attached to faces (and art!).
Next week, I'm not likely to have an article posted at the usual time due to convention burnout, but will do my best to post some short comments and pictures for you all. Have a great week and game on!

Read MoreHello readers and welcome to another installment of The Professional Gamer. I hope you all had a good Memorial Day. I spent my morning running the Bolder Boulder. Then, most of the rest of the day was spent recovering from the race. I had a decent time this year, especially considering how much my training was interrupted this year due to a number of other life events. During the rest of the week, I spent most of my free time this week reading, but also finished watching Golden Boy with my friends.
Let's start this week with discussing Golden Boy, which wins the award for the most raunchy anime that my wife enjoys to watch. Kintaro is a rather terrible perv, but in the end he also has a drive to do good for those around him. I want to really hate him for his lecherous ways, but in the end he tries to make sure that things turn out well for everybody around him, so it is hard to be too hard on him.
In book news, this week I've been reading Robert's Rules of Order, Newly Revised, which is basically the big book of how to run a meeting for a voluntary society, club, or business. It's very interesting to see a general set of rules that can be adapted to many different types of organizations. I wanted to read the book due to getting involved in my local political party, since parliamentary procedure is big part of the official meetings that we have. In the end, it makes me wonder if I should have more structure in my day to day interactions with lots of people. Also, I just want to start a club so that I can practice with all the finicky procedural stuff. Does that make me too much of a nerd?

After over 2 years of waiting, Overwatch has finally arrived. Coming from the remains of the “Titan” project, Overwatch is a new entry in the Team-Oriented Role-Based FPS genre. Man, that is what, TORBFPS? Note to self, find better acronym for this. Anyway, until this came the most prosperous game in the this category was Team Fortress 2. And while Team Fortress 2 is still going to be sitting comfortably on its hat filled throne, we finally at least have a game to give it a run for its money.

Read MoreToday Blizzard took the Overwatch servers live. Ok, they took Overwatch live at 12:00 AM GMT on 05/24/2016, but that was like 40 minutes ago here in Denver. And while I have not had a chance to actually step in the game, I did want to point out something interesting that I found on Eurogamer. Apparently in different parts of the world giant Overwatch action figures have appeared.
In Hollywood, CA twitter user RuzGofDi snapped photos of the Tracer box, Mamytwink found Genji in Paris,and @osevno snapped one of Pharah in Bexco, Busan.

Read MoreAfter all of the weird stuff that happened last week, I'm happy to have had a more normal schedule this week. I was able to play some video games, had a day off of work, and went to the theater. In all, a lot of fun this week.
In Elite: Dangerous, I've got my Type 7 Transport equipped with all the best modules. I feel like I've run into a lot of bugs involving interdiction, and ended up getting blasted up by a lot of NPC jerks. I've re-tooled my ship to focus on defense, rather than offense. Considering that running is the more practical option for me in most cases. I should be in a good place to start running a regular trading route to pick up the credits that I need in order to get to the next ship.
For those not in the Denver area, I may need to provide some background information about what I did in the middle of this week. Devotchka is a local band (who has had some level of national success), and they are known locally for annual concerts with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. This year, they partnered with the Denver Center theater company to perform Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. And, with only a few performances left, I managed to get in to see the show. It was a whole lot of fun. I was really impressed with the performances, and had a lot of fun watching it.

Yesterday was the end of the Overwatch open beta. Thousands (guessing) of players jumped and got what was potentially their first taste of Blizzard's first FPS. And it appears to have gone over well. In order to gently let us newbs get a feel for the game you have a standard training tutorial, and then you have team vs AI. Here you are set with a human team vs a set of AI opponents with a set difficulty. Once you have had your feel of the AI, then you can go for some good old human vs human action.
