Best Platformer

Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii)

Donkey Kong Country Returns (Wii)

Kirby's Epic Yarn (Wii)

Limbo (Xbox 360)

It’s pretty obvious from the nominations that Nintendo holds a high standard of great platformers.  Out of the four nominations, three of them are Wii titles.  Which Wii title was the best platformer or will the Xbox arcade title sneak up and take the crown for itself?

The 2010 Gameslave Award for Best Platformer goes to Donkey Kong Country Returns (Wii).  Fans of Donkey Kong Country for the SNES and fans of the platforming genre will absolutely adore Donkey Kong Country Returns.  DKCR is a masterpiece when it comes to platform gaming.  It’s your traditional side scrolling platformer, but what makes DKCR really unique is how it takes advantages of using both the background and foreground.  Instead of just going left and right on the screen, you now have the ability to jump back into the background and return forward to the foreground.  It’s also difficult like a true old school platformer.  You will die, multiple times, but there is a great satisfaction when you finally raise your hands in triumph.  Want to play with a friend?  DKCR implements cooperative gameplay flawlessly.  As an overall package, DKCR is not only a great platformer; it’s a great video game.
