The Cake Is A Lie...

Wow, what a Tuesday the 19th is going to be.  I'll be honest, I haven't played a brand new game on release day in who knows how long, Cataclysm probably.  But tomorrow is going to be an awesome day for gamers.  As you already know from my previous post, I'm super pumped for Mortal Kombat, but also equally excited for Portal 2.  Speaking of, it looks like it has been released on Steam, so I'm going to have to end the post quicker than I thought.  Portal 2 here I come!  Damn having to wake up early tomorrow for work, why can't I be independently wealthy!

Get Over Here!

Dear Mortal Kombat,

On the eve of your newest release, I want to thank you for going back to your roots.  I can't wait to see and pull off all the different fatalities that will make me squirm and possibly vomit in my mouth a little bit, but in a disturbing good way, if that's possible.  It's been far too long since we've seen a true Mortal Kombat game; one that focuses on 2D fighting and of course the fatalities.  I first laid eyes on this new Mortal Kombat on June 15, 2010 at E3 with the tentative title of Mortal Kombat: Mortal Kombat - Mortal Kombat.  To be honest, I wasn't really expecting much at the demo booth; just stopped by to see if it should be mentioned in our daily E3 write ups.  Needless to say, I was blown away and giggled like a little school girl when I first saw the new X-Ray attacks.  However, I do have one complaint, why change the name from Mortal Combat Cubed to just Mortal Kombat?  I realize you want to reunite gamers to what made you you, but you have to admit, if Mortal Kombat is awesome, then Mortal Kombat: Mortal Kombat - Mortal Kombat would be three times more awesome, right?!?  But, I digress.  Thumbs everywhere will be in pain from not being able to put down the controller and many gamers will be spouting "just one more match."  The pain will be a good pain; not like the pain Sub Zero will feel when Scorpion hooks him and yells "Get over here!"  Thanks again MK, I look forward to many late nights and multiple gaming parties.  Finish Him!!!

Guitar Hero = Zombie?

So a while back it was reported that Activision was done with the Guitar Hero franchise. That it had stopped being the money maker they wanted it to be, blah blah blah, yadda yadda yadda. Well goes to show that some times people jump the gun. What they really meant to say, or at least what Activision's Dan Winters told GameIndustry.biz, is that they are just placing the series on hiatus for a bit. That they are not planning a game for this year due to an over saturation in a fickle console market. This means we may not see a Guitar Hero game this year or next year, but maybe the year after. Good news is though they have a vault of content to release and will use this to support their loyal fans. So rock on you plastic guitar rock gods.

Portal 2 for PS3 Details

So Valve has been kind enough to give a few more details on how Portal 2 is going to work for those that purchase it for the PS3. Portal 2 is going to be the first of what might be many Steam Play games on the PS3. But what is this Steam Play you may ask? Well when a player starts up Portal 2 they will be asked to link their Steam account to their PSN account. This will allow their Portal 2 games to be saved to the Steam Cloud allowing access to the files from any PS3 (but not other consoles for a PC/Macintosh). They will also be able to access both PSN friends and Steam friends from the provided interface (hopefully free of megelomaniac AIs). You can even play cross platform in the co-op mode of the game. But what to do if you don't have a Steam account?  First I need to ask why you don't have a Steam account? Then you can just click a button in Portal 2 to get registered. They are making this real easy. Now you not only have a Steam account but you get to earn both PSN Trophies and Steam Achievements (if that is your thing). Lastly, and this is the part I think I like the best, once you attach your Steam account to your PSN account you can enter a code included in the box to play Portal on your PC or Macintosh. If this works as they hope this could be what starts breaking down the barriers of console and PC gamers.

FUNimation SOLD!

Some people are saying that anime in the states is dying; that fan subs are making it unprofitable. Try telling that to Gen Fukunaga and a group of investors that have recently purchased FUNimation Entertainment from Navarre Coporation recently for $24 million cash. And you cannot even say that Fukunaga-sama has no clue what he is getting into. The man is the founder, president and CEO of the blasted company.

So what exactly does this mean to me, the consumer? It means the company is going no where and you can expect distribution to happen just as it has in the past. Even though Navarre has sold the company they are still going to act as the sole distributer state side. They are also going to act as FUNimations logistics and fulfillment services provider.  Want more information on the sale?  Continue reading after the jump for the press release.

Thundercats, THUNDERcats, THUNDERCATS HOOOOOO

EDIT: So the Embed on the video was removed, head here to check it out on YouTube

So if you cannot tell I am a little excited about the recent Thundercats trailer that has been released. "Coming Soon" to Cartoon Network it is a near complete redo of the original cartoon. While normally this would be a reason for complaint, so far this looks awesome.  It shows what happens when a superior power finds itself out matched with greater technology.  The mix of sword, sorcery, and technology looks great.  Now lets hope the series lives up to the trailer.

The Gameslave Podcast - Episode 68

World of Goo - Continuing to consume free time

So you remember World of Goo right? The addictive tower building game that came out waaaayyy back in October 2008. It was one of the most pirated games of its day and did not get near the amount of money per unit that it should have, due to a pay what you think it is worth pricing model (cheap bastards that spent a $0.01). Still not ringing any bells? Ok it was about a bunch of goo balls (didn't figure that one out huh?) that you used to build a tower to a pipe to collect said goo. Well it is coming to iOS for an astounding $2.99.  So now you can build your goo based towers anywhere! But it gets better, if you are attentive and manage to purchase it on release day you will save $2.00 as it will be $0.99. The catch on this is, sadly, I don't know the relase date yet. So keep an eye out and save that $2.00.

Now don't go and get bent out of shape iPad owners that have World of Goo HD. Your copy is being made universal so if you have already purchased it for your iPad then you already have it for your iPhone/iPod. You just have to wait for it to come out.
