Conversations with IrishPride Episode 12

I'm Back!!!

Play how you want.

Hello everybody and welcome to episode 12 of Conversations with IrishPride.  It's been a strange couple of months for me for me not playing many video games, but I do believe I am back to playing games and it's all thanks to Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.  So for this episode, I'm going to give you my initial impressions to the game that got me back into gaming.

I, like many gamers out there, enjoy the open RPG world of the Elder Scrolls series and was eagerly anticipating Skyrim, even in my mode of not wanting to play video games.  Well, the wait is finally over and the wait was well worth it.  I pre-purchased Skyrim via Steam so I could have it pre-installed and I would get a chance to play it at 10pmMST on Thursday 11/10.  I booted up the game last night and was under way.

Review - Rage

You know the recipe; the world has a high level of technology and the world is getting ready to come to an end due to some event (in this case asteroids), so let’s setup a way to save humanity.  In this case they create Arks and place people in cryogenic stasis in them so they will survive the catastrophe.  It seems like an awesome and great plan, so what are the chances that things actually work as planned?  If you are thinking not so well, then you’re right on the mark.  107 years later you wake up and you are the only survivor of your Ark.  The other stasis pods failed and now your fellow Ark mates are dried up husks.  You leave the Ark and walk outside to what should be a nearly deserted world and almost get taken out by a bandit.  You are saved at the last second by Dan Hagar who gives you a crash course in the Wasteland.  The short story is that the world did not go boom, there were survivors, but things have still gone to hell.  There are bandits, mutants (which you can’t loot mostly, bastards) and the Authority.

MW3 Releases

So I am in the 1%. No, not the financial 1%, that would be nice, but no.  I am in the 1% of people that are not super excited about Modern Warfare 3 coming out tonight at midnight.  But that does not mean that I don't respect the fandom.  I went to a GameStop by my work to take care of a preorder and found a line of 6 people.  This was A) 3:00 PM and the events for the night did not start until around 10:00 PM and B) It was about 45˚ F and dropping to an estimated 26˚F by midnight.  To me this a a great devotion of the fandom to the series and something that shows what it means to be true hardcore gamer.

So while I may not be playing the game tonight or tomorrow, I do salute you Moder Warefare 3 gamer. You are a true gamer and you help keep this industry alive so I may play the games I am looking forward to. GAME ON!

PS. Don't forget your Mountain Dew codes.  You will need the extra XP.
