This Game is a Wish Come True

PopCap has created many games that thousands of people play on a daily basis.  They have created Bejewled, Peggle, Plants vs Zombies, and now they can add making wishes come true to the resume.  OK, more accurately 4th & Battery, the experimental PopCap label, made the wish come true, but same overall company.  A young boy by the name of Owain Weinert with leukemia had wanted to be a game developer. So the Make-A-Wish Foundation worked with PopCap to make this come true.  The game they created is Allied Star Police, a side scrolling strategy game with tower defense aspects.  Would you like to play this game?  Well good news if you have and iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch as it is available on the App Store right now, for free even!  Thank you LadyRecluce for bringing this to my attention and check out the full press release after the break.

PRESS RELEASE

4th & Battery Brings Make-A-Wish Dream to Life with Allied Star Police™ App for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch

App concept developed by Seattle-area Make-A-Wish Foundation recipient Owain Weinert

SEATTLE, Washington – July 21, 2011 - 4th & Battery (www.4thandbattery.com), the experimental label from PopCap Games today announced Allied Star Police™ App for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch is now available on the App Store. The game was conceived and designed by nine-year old Owain Weinert, a Make-A-Wish Foundation of Alaska & Washington® recipient residing in the Seattle area.

Allied Star Police is a side-scrolling, top down arcade-style game featuring a combination of tower defense and real-time strategy gameplay. Players take on the classic good vs. evil story set in a futuristic fictional world. Imagined and designed by Owain Weinert, and developed by members of 4th & Battery, Allied Star Police is fun for all ages.

"I have to say, my brother can't stop playing it, my dad can't stop playing it, and neither can I," said Owain. "This started off as a dream of mine, and now my friends and people all over the world can play my creation."

In the game, powerful Allied Star Police (ASP) units are available for your deployment, including the Hovercraft SuperVehicle and the mysterious G.S.L.C. to help battle against the evil Flamion units, including the Mechazoids and Commandoids. Players fight their way through three difficulty settings – Newbie, Veteran, and INSANIFIED – and three exotic intergalactic locales – Earth, Mars and Flamiar – as they attempt to reach and destroy the Flamion Base.

Over the last few months, as a part of "PopCamp," an in house event where developers get to work on whatever projects they want, developers from the 4th & Battery studio worked intimately with Owain. Coming into the office weekly, Owain worked hands on with the team to make his app dream a reality.

"Owain was literally like every other designer and developer I've worked with," said Matthew Lee Johnston, Senior Producer at 4th & Battery. "The minute he walked in the door he handed us a fully realized game design, figured out to the last detail. He stuck with that vision, and directed the team through the development process like a pro. When he first sat down to play it, he naturally knew what to do and won his first round easily, which felt to us like we did a good job executing on his plan."

The Allied Star Police App is available for free from the App Store on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, or at www.itunes.com/appstore/. 4th & Battery is expected to produce several games per year, primarily small-scale, arcade-style games for platforms ranging from PC to Facebook® and iPhone.
